Staff Book Review

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
by Seth Grahame-Smith, 2010

Book Description: While Abraham Lincoln is widely lauded for saving a Union and freeing millions of slaves, his valiant fight against the forces of the undead has remained in the shadows for hundreds of years.

Judging by the cover, I thought "this book is going to be awesome." If only this version of Abe's life were true! There is so much history intertwined with the aspect of vampires that I started to lose track of what was fiction: of course there are vampires! And obviously, Abraham Lincoln would be a perfect vampire hunter!
There's also pictures. Of vampires. At least, that's what fictional Abe wants you to think by putting them in his "journal." The author just placed vampire happenings into Abraham Lincoln's journals and somehow it makes sense.
Since it has recently become popular to take classic literature and add the supernatural to it, this title stands out above the rest.  It is a slow read because of all the history, but worth the time. Highly recommended for grades 9-12.
